What are some
of the projects I could use RSH-RDELTA for?
Here are just a
few. The documentation manual contains examples of others.
Are you running
RRSF to synchronize databases and need to continually verify that
they are in sync? Just use RSH-RDELTA to compare the database
unloads and identify differences between any two of your databases.
Are you
consolidating data centers and need to merge two RACF databases?
RSH-RDELTA will identify which components can be merged immediately
and which have conflicts. Use RSH-RDELTA to research the conflicts
and it will even highlight the case where a USERID on one database
is a GROUP on the other.
Trying to get a
handle on the volume of RACF changes and don't want to process all
those SMF records? RSH-RDELTA can compare your current database
unload with last week's or last month's and tell you, by resource
class, how many profiles and access permissions have changed.
Adding dataset and
resource profiles for a critical application rollout this weekend?
Not sure if you got them all and you don't have time to filter
LISTDSD and RLIST listings? Just unload your database and use
RSH-RDELTA to compare it with an unload from before you started your
updates. RSH-RDELTA can even limit its analysis to the Dataset High
Level Qualifiers and Resource classes in which you are interested.
Starting a project
to synchronize RACF databases and trying to get a feel for the
magnitude? Use RSH-RDELTA to compare the unloads for the databases
and find out how much effort will be required. Then use RSH-RDELTA
for research and to track your progress from week to week.
Need to archive
the contents of a RACF database for research or recovery? Just
unload your database and use RSH-RDELTA to compare the database with
itself! You can get a listing of the contents of every field on
every profile that interests you.
Want to download
RACF information to your PC? RSH-RDELTA can provide its information
in a format designed for this purpose.
Want to list a
RACF profile as of last month? Simply compare last month's RACF
database unload with itself and select the profiles you want. It's
as simple as that.

What system
modifications are required to execute RSH-RDELTA?
None. RSH-RDELTA does not require APF
authorization or any other operating system changes.

-
What will the
demonstration provide?
Running in Demo Mode (i.e., without a
license code), RSH-RDELTA will provide full functionality in terms
of all of its selection and reporting options but will only compare
and generate reports for user profile IBMUSER, group profile SYS1,
dataset profiles with the High Level Qualifier of SYS1, and general
resource profiles in the TSOAUTH class.

What operating
system, sort products, and REXX Compiler has RSH-RDELTA been tested
with?
RSH-RDELTA was
originally designed and tested on z/OS 1.4.
RSH-RDELTA has
been tested with IBM's DFSORT Release 14.0 and Syncsort's Syncsort
for z/OS Release 1.1.
RSH-RDELTA was
compiled using IBM's REXX/370 Compiler 3.0.

Do I have to
have IBM's REXX compiler to run RSH-RDELTA?
No. If you have IBM's REXX compiler,
you can run the IBM-compiled version of the program, which will run
about 40% faster. If not, you can run the alternate compiled version
which requires no additional software.
